How to choose your Jim Beam
If you are mixing, stay at the entry point of the range, those bottles are built to hold their own against cola, dry ginger ale or soda, and paying more will not improve a highball. If you drink neat or over a single large rock, move up to the aged and small-batch expressions where the extra time in oak actually shows. If you are buying a gift, the presentation packs and glassware sets do most of the work for you, and the collector editions hold their value better than anything else on this page. Jim Beam, frequently asked questions
Is Jim Beam a bourbon or a whiskey?
Both. Jim Beam is a Kentucky straight bourbon, and all bourbon is whiskey. To be sold as bourbon it must be made from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred American oak, Jim Beam has met that standard since the Beam family started distilling in 1795.
How is Jim Beam made?
A corn-led mash bill is fermented with the Beam family jug yeast, distilled twice, then filled into new charred white oak barrels and aged in open rickhouses. The standard White Label is aged four years; Black is aged longer, and the Single Barrel and Lineage releases are drawn from individually selected barrels.
What is the difference between Jim Beam White Label and Black Label?
White Label is the four year old core bourbon, light, sweet and built for mixing. Black is extra aged, giving a deeper, oakier pour that holds up neat or over a single rock. The Single Barrel at 108 proof is the biggest of the three.
What flavoured Jim Beam can I buy in Australia?
We stock the infused range, Honey, Apple, Peach, Vanilla, Maple and Pineapple, plus Red Stag Black Cherry. They sit around 32–40% ABV and are made for mixing rather than sipping neat.
Can I buy a 1 litre bottle of Jim Beam?
Yes. Several expressions come in 1 litre and 1.125 litre formats alongside the standard 700ml and 750ml, and there are 50ml miniatures if you want to try before committing to a big bottle.
